Creative Writing: Darkness
(Alex and his communication therapist Meghann saved 15 minutes at the end of one of his sessions for some creative writing. She presented him with three options, and he chose "Darkness - Write a poem/short story/journal entry inspired by what you can't see." -Denise)
Darkness has always intrigued me. The way it totally drenches everything once lit up has always reminded me of spilling the paint in art class. The thick darkness keeps out curiosity while simultaneously inviting it to explore its expansive depths.
Darkness is not for the faint of heart, you must be prepared to see things you might not want to see. Darkness allows time for self reflection and deep introspection, you must not fight it.
Darkness is impenetrable, it is not so bad to submit to darkness and let it show you what you need to see: your true self.
Then i often think about the things darkness cannot hide from anyone. Like the stars. To me the stars represent the parts of myself that say 'screw you darkness, this is who i am'. The stars are my autism and my true mind and personality. I love them both the dark and light. Without dark we cannot appreciate light.
