Creative Writing: Advice Columnist
(Alex's therapist Elizabeth asked Alex to pretend he was an advice columnist, and she gave him a few questions to respond to. For some reason he gave himself the pen name Gomez (??!); but unsurprisingly, he gave some very insightful answers. -Denise)
Dear Gomez-
I am autistic. I find myself cursing and swearing overtime I'm in a crowded room. Do you have any advice?
Signed,
Potty Mouth
Dear Potty Mouth-
I feel you, bro. Just consider everything you say and it will make you the smartest in the room instead of the rudest. Now I will try to follow my own advice.
-Gomez the Good
Dear Gomez-
I have autism and I am feeling pretty miserable. I can't speak and I can't communicate, and I'm feeling really frustrated and depressed. Do you have any advice?
Signed,
Miserable Autistic
Dear Miserable Autistic-
I probably wrote this letter once myself. The thing is that you are not going through this alone. Many of us have been where you are now and it's temporary to feel this miserable. The truth is that it is not easy to be nonspeaking and autistic. But we are incredible people. I now am at peace with who I am. I would not deviate from who I am and the life I now love So hang in there my miserable friend. It does get better. Now my hair raising anxiety may be gone and I am simply left with the best parts of me.
Sincerely,
Gomez the Brave and the Good
